Without an Apparent Destination, a blog to backpackers

After 5 days in Thailand, today marks the start of this blog titled Sin Destino Aparente (Without an Apparent Destination). Initially, this blog is meant for family and friends to follow how our journey through Southeast Asia is going.

It also aims to inform fellow adventurers and travelers considering a visit to these lands, to satisfy the curiosity of those who enjoy reading and learning about other cultures, and lastly, to serve as a beautiful memory of this adventure through Southeast Asia.

The idea of going to Southeast Asia

Our journey began one day on a beach in Tarragona, specifically, La Mora beach, during some downtime while working as lifeguards. That day, we were chatting about past trips we’d taken. Out of nowhere, someone brought up the idea of how amazing it would be to plan a trip to Thailand with a group of lifeguards.

From that moment on, the idea stuck in our minds. Slowly, a casual conversation among friends began to turn into a real plan. Who knows, maybe this trip could change our lives. And if not, we were certain it would be an unforgettable experience.

Without giving it too much thought, Sergio and I ended up buying a one-way ticket from Barcelona to Bangkok. A week later, Xavi joined the trip despite some initial doubts. And finally, Rober, seeing the incredible plan coming together, couldn’t resist either.

Our Initial Plan

We would depart on September 20, 2011, with a one-way ticket. The idea was to travel around Thailand for a month and then explore Southeast Asia over the next few months. The plan was flexible, maybe Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, but nothing was set in stone. Everything was uncertain.

From now on, we’ll try to publish weekly posts. I hope to share insights about this amazing country and keep you updated on our journey. We’re heading out Without an Apparent Destination, first stop, Thailand, and then, wherever the road takes us.

The Evolution of the Blog

After more than 15 years of writing this blog, it’s only natural that it has evolved over time. What began as a simple travel diary has gradually transformed into a practical guide for travelers, full of tips, hidden gems, and useful information for all kinds of adventurers.

I’ve also had the fortune of visiting Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, and China, where I ended up living for many years. During that time, I even got the chance to experience life in Thailand as an English teacher in a small town in the heart of the country.

Moreover, after spending 7 years living in China and exploring many of its most fascinating landscapes, I’ve started organizing custom trips to China. This has brought a new dimension to the blog and continues to drive its growth year after year.
